Are you confident your insurance company will cover you if you have a loss? What happens to your family if they don’t? Do you have a place for you and your family to stay if your insurance company does not pay for a place for you to stay while your home is being rebuilt? I have a friend whose house burned. Her insurance company would not pay until they investigated the cause of fire and were convinced it was not fraud or arson. She went many months without help from her insurance company. She still had to pay the mortgage on her home. In addition to her mortgage and utilities, she had the extra expense of paying rent and utilities at an apartment for her and her child to live during the time she could not live in her home. By the time her insurance company decided to pay for her loss, she was financially ruined and had to rebuild her credit in addition to her home. Make sure your insurance company is a reputable one. We all buy insurance with the hope of never having to use it, but you can’t purchase it when you need it. Make sure you know your coverage and are confident you are not under covered BEFORE you need it
